Assessments

Consultation

Occupational therapy assessments may be referred by a parent, teachers or any medical professional who feels that there may be underlying issues causing challenges to a child’s development.

Prior to the assessment, an initial consultation is scheduled with the parents where the Therapist will gather detailed information about the child as well as his/her developmental history.

Assessment

The Occupational therapist breaks down tasks into specific skill sets to determine if there are weaknesses that are affecting the child’s functioning, e.g. weak fine-motor skills can contribute to illegible handwriting, difficulties with tying shoelaces or using utensils. This is :

  • conducted by using a combination of standardized tests of skills, rating scales and/or observations.
  • carried out over 1 – 2 separate sessions.
  • will provide the basis for treatment plans that can be implemented at home, at the therapy center and/or in school.

What Goes On Feedback

A feedback session with the parents will be conducted once the results from the assessment and observation sessions have been analysed. A detailed report that outlines assessment findings and systematic recommendations on therapy will be included.
